Two Highways Agency representatives, Mark Hitchcock – Landscape Designer and Fiona Davis – Senior Ecologist recently met HWLT trustees Simon Phipps and Keith Datchler along with Meadows Officer Dawn Brickwood to discuss options for improving management and biodiversity on parts of the A21.
The central reservation at Pillory Corner in Flimwell represents an excellent opportunity to show the value of the wildflower species Yellow Rattle in suppressing grasses, reducing management implication and potentially keeping sight lines clear. The Lamberhurst by-pass offers a key area in a high profile location to showcase local wildflower and grass seeding, whilst along the Pembury by-pass, where special species and anthills already exist, there is an opportunity to show the difference a few management tweaks could make.
The half day was instructive and you may have seen us out on your travels! We hope that subject to approval, some of these discreet projects may take place later on this year.
